The Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation invites all supporters of the Shenandoah Community Schools -- including holiday visitors -- to take part in our first annual 5K Fun Run/Walk, to be held at 8 a.m. this coming Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. All proceeds will support the foundation's work in enhancing educational opportunities for current and future students in the Shenandoah schools. Then local businesses have stepped up as sponsors of the fun run-walk: Shenandoah Inn & Suites, Century Bank, United Group Insurance, Jim Hughes Real Estate, Miller Building Supply Company, Bank Iowa, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Shenandoah Medical Center, RocStop, and State Farm Insurance The event will be held on the SHS Cross Country Course. The cost is $15 per person, with a $60 maximum for a family of six or fewer. To guarantee yourself a commemorative event T-shirt, register by May 6, using the form which is available by clicking here. Registrations will continue up to the morning of the event, with T-shirts being provided until they're gone. Co-chairs of the foundation's Fun Run/Walk are Jamie Burdorf and Corby Fichter. Burdorf, who is married to SHS activities director Aaron Burdorf, said the couple co-chaired the Rose Festival 5K for several years when they lived in State Center. And Jamie helped Aaron organize last fall's first Homecoming Color Run, which kicked off the homecoming week festivities in Shenandoah.
