Shenandoah, Iowa — The Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation celebrated its fifth annual “Excellence in Education” Banquet with an evening of recognition, reflection, and community pride. The event, held at the Elm Street Grill, welcomed approximately 125 attendees in support of education and the continued success of Shenandoah students and staff.
The evening featured special entertainment by the Shenandoah High School Music Department, highlighting the talent and dedication of student musicians. Shenandoah FFA students provided service throughout the evening.
A highlight of the night was the recognition of two distinguished Alumni of the Year. Bob Creighton introduced Roger Scarbrough, and Corby Fichter introduced Chuck Offenburger. Both honorees shared speeches that were humorous and heartfelt, reflecting on their upbringing in Shenandoah and the lasting influence the community has had on their lives and careers.
Service Awards were presented to Denise Green, Jeff McCoy, and Martha Mason, each recognized for dedicating 25 or more years to education. Spirit Awards, nominated by peers, were awarded to Amber Fichter, Crystal Wittmer, Brian Blank, and Noah Bielby for their positive impact and commitment to their school community.
The evening also included the presentation of a new scholarship. Lesley Brooks awarded the inaugural Barb “Miss C” Cunningham Scholarship to Ellie Cook, a student pursuing a career in education, honoring both the legacy of the scholarship’s namesake and the future of the profession.
In a milestone moment, the Foundation celebrated ten years to the day since it was chartered, announcing that it has reached an endowment of $1 million—an achievement that reflects the generosity and ongoing support of the Shenandoah community.
The Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the success of the evening. Continued community support ensures the Foundation can carry forward its mission of promoting excellence in education for years to come.
