SHENANDOAH, Iowa – In her 35 years on the faculty at Shenandoah High School, Anne B. Gee taught at least two generations of students the job-guaranteeing skills of typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and general business.  When a third generation came along late in her career, she introduced them to computers, too.

To do all that, she had to be more than a great teacher.  She had to be a life-long learner herself, and as one, she was a dandy.

She grew up “prim & proper,” one daughter says, in a genteel Virginia family with colonial roots. She later le...

SHENANDOAH, Iowa -- The late Anne B. Gee, who for decades was a business teacher and a farm & business manager, knew a good investment when she saw one. And thus her daughters are confident that their mother would be pleased that they've now contributed $20,000 from Anne's estate to the Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation to help underwrite the future of the Shenandoah Community Schools.

"Mom loved Shenandoah, and she loved her 35-year teaching career here," said daughter Jill Gee Polk, a 1974 SHS graduate now living in Redmond, Washington. She...

SHENANDOAH, Iowa, Sept. 22, 2017 –- The family of the late farmwife, mother, musician, artist and community leader Isabel Spears, who lived just south of Shenandoah, has given our Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation its first significantly large donation -- $20,000.

The family gift is announced by Roger Spears, of Durham, N.C., a 1972 Shenandoah High School graduate and recently retired architect, in memory of his mother Isabel McQueen Spears, who died in June, 2016, at the age of 97.

“My mother was profoundly insistent on the import...

SHENANDOAH, Iowa, September 12, 2017 – Hello, supporters of the Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation!

I know it has been a while since I posted a column. I did not intend to take this long to send out a new message, but honestly I have been struggling on what to communicate to all of you.  As of August 21, I knew what I wanted to visit about with you.  This might at first appear to have nothing to do with our Foundation, but I believe it has everything to do with our Foundation.

On that Monday, Aug. 21, I had the privilege to address abou...

SHENANDOAH, Iowa, June 12, 2017 – Hello to all supporters of the Shenandoah Schools! Welcome and thank you for spending some time looking around on our new website. I wasn’t exactly sure what to write in my first President’s Column, but I figured sharing from my heart would be a good way to start.

Let me start at the beginning. Our Shenandoah Iowa Education Foundation officially began with our first meeting in March 2016 with 11 members recruited for our Board of Directors and our Shenandoah Schools Superintendent Kerri Nelson. It is an honor...
